Version 8.8.0 is an enhancement release based on comments and suggestions we have received from the Thoroughbred community; both through the Thoroughbred mail-list forum and our support department. A few highlights are:

• Basic™: Executing console mode statements in public programs is now supported
• Basic: The XML shorthand has been added to the TFF XML option
• Basic and TbredComm™: Expanded escape sequences in our type 3 driver to allow setting the default character width and height absolute point values
• Basic: Numeric and string array copy. Example: LET A$[ALL] = B$[ALL]
• Basic: BREAK and CONTINUE directives have been added. BREAK aborts a FOR/NEXT or WHILE/WEND loop. CONTINUE jumps to the next iteration of a FOR/NEXT or WHILE/WEND loop
• TS ODBC DataServer™: ODBC 3.0 compliant
• TS ODBC DataServer: A LIMIT clause has been added to SELECT statements
• DataServers: Devices Da through Dz can be used for DataServers. Increasing the number of connections from 36 to 62
• OPENworkshop®: Support of mixed case data-element names with a minimum length of 2 characters
• OPENworkshop: Sort usage and Schemas are now tracked by the OWS Global Dictionary
• OPENworkshop: View F8 SELECT WHEN now supports text field searching
• Script-IV™: Now supports BREAK and CONTINUE in DO WHILE/UNTIL. BREAK and CONTINUE are now reserved keywords words in Script-IV
• Source-IV™: The F8 Library Search has been expanded to support the Source-IV Search Summary View
• Report-IV™ to PDF: Now supports UPC barcodes

Installation Notes VIP and TbredComm

When installing TbredComm or VIP select the appropriate setup.exe.

• Setup_Tbcomm_7plus.exe installs TbredComm on Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Server 2008, and Server 2012
• Setup_VIP_7plus.exe installs VIP on on Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Server 2008, and Server 2012
• Setup_Tbcomm_XP.exe installs TbredComm on XP
• Setup_VIP_XP.exe installs VIP on XP

The above setups will first determine if any Microsoft pre-requisites are required on the target system. If they are you will be prompted to install them. This is required. When this phase of the installation is complete, the Thoroughbred TbredComm or VIP installation will automatically run.

When installing on Windows 8 and Server 2012 shortcuts are created on the Metro interface. Clicking on a shortcut will launch the TbredComm/WorkStation Manager in the Desktop interface.

TbredComm now sets the UNIX/Linux TERM variable to ‘tbredcom’. This requires a new terminfo entry. The files are included with all UNIX/Linux 8.8.0 (and higher) Basic installs. The standard install puts these files in lib/t in your Basic home directory. These files need to be copied into /usr/share/terminfo/t or /usr/lib/terminfo/t depending on your UNIX/Linux distribution.

If the TERM variable is being set by a shell command after TbredComm has started, that command should be changed to set TERM=tbredcom.

Installation Notes TS Environment™ for Windows

There is only one install package for TS Environment for Windows. The installation process will determine the target platform and install accordingly. The tbsetup.ini file is no longer required.

Reporting Problems

When reporting problems please be sure to include the build/version number and the operating system you are experiencing the problem on. If applicable, supply the error number, program name, and the statement where the error occurred.

The Thoroughbred Basic version and date can be accessed using the DUMP VERSION directive. From Basic Console Mode type in DUMP VERSION and press the Enter key.

The OPENworkshop version number and release date are available from the Version Manager on the System Administration Menu. To verify the build date of a specific program simply list line 10 of any OWS program (i.e. "OO").

The VIP for Dictionary-IV® (client), TbredComm, TS ReportServer™, and Gateway for Windows™ build numbers should be verified at the executable level. Please do not use the VIP Version manager. To verify individual executables:

On Windows XP, right mouse click on an executable. Select 'Properties', select the 'Version' tab and highlight 'Product Version'. The detailed build information will be displayed in a panel on the right.

On Windows Vista/Windows Server 2008/Windows 7/Windows 8/Server 2012, right mouse click on an executable. Select 'Properties', select the 'Details' tab. The detailed build information will be displayed in the 'Product Version' field.
